It used to be that every time one of my children started a conversation with the words, "Hey mom, can I talk to you about something," I braced myself for a question about sex.
Now I hold onto my hat for a question about something far more difficult to answer: the economy.
A week ago while driving my 10-year-old to a party, Amy delicately broached this subject in the way one might ask where babies come from.
Sensing this was sensitive territory, she cleared her throat and said, "Mom, the kids at school keep mentioning something about Wall Street and some sort of crisis. Also, I heard on the news that we're all going to be depressed about it. It's making me worry that something bad is going to happen," she said.

What's the deal with the blurring line?
For example, I am quite certain that Marcellus really never was the same after The Robe.

Tour De Troit
Saturday, we rode in the Tour De Troit, an annual 40 mile bike ride through Detroit. The purpose is to publicize biking as a means of transportation and to raise money for greenlinks.
We met downtown at Roosevelt Park, right next to the Michigan Central Station, an old deserted train station. It must have been quite nice at one time, though we were told the top two floors were never occupied.
Here we are, all ready to take off.
We passed right by Ford Field
and Comerica Park, where the Detroit Tigers play.
We rode past lots of old houses, that must have been quite lovely in their day.
It was like a fashion show of bikes! I saw more recumbent bicycles than I've ever seen before.
We rode by Palmer Park.
At the halfway point, we had a break at a community center where we were seved fruit, drinks, and snack bars.
Then it was back on the bikes for 20 more miles.
If you look really closely, you'll see a little bitty baby in this trailer. I bet not more than 6 weeks old! When I saw him later, it looked like he couldn't even yet hold his head up! He was tiny.
We had a great day with our friends, the Oliveros!
