What's the deal with the blurring line?

Sometimes, what I read seems so real that I'm not always sure it didn't really happen!
For example, I am quite certain that Marcellus really never was the same after The Robe.

Hiking the AT

Monday, some of us went for a hike along the Appalachian Trail, the more than 2,175-mile long footpath stretching through 14 eastern states from Maine to Georgia. (We almost went to Mount Katahdin in Maine last summer, but we ran out of time. It was too far from Acadia.) We enjoyed photographing the many butterflies and wildflowers. We hiked 4 miles to Charlie's Bunion (which is 5,565 feet in elevation), and then back to the trailhead, of course. I probably don't need to tell you that some of us were mighty tired!
